BIOGRAPHY

Paul Morin

Paul Morin, an accomplished painter, sculptor and musician is also the illustrator of a number of children’s books.  Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Mr. Morin now lives near Rockwood, Ontario.  He has always had a fascination for nature and man’s connection to it.  His artwork has allowed him to express this, as he combines paintings, sculpture, music, sound and video in his work.  Paul’s first children’s book was “The Orphan Boy” (1990) where he traveled to Africa to research the Maasai people (who the story is about).  While there he became friends with a Maasai warrior and at night, Mr. Morin would make recordings of Maasai songs in the village.  This gave him a tremendous amount of inspiration and made him realize that he wanted to illustrate more stories of traditional cultures.  Since then, he has traveled to Africa, Australia, China and throughout North, Central and South America to research the culture and settings for each story he has illustrated. . It is traditional cultures that interest Paul, because they are grounded in the importance of earth, spirit, harmony and wisdom.

Over the past decade, Paul has illustrated 16 books, and has lectured on art, music and primitive cultures at conferences, schools and libraries across the country. His career has allowed him to incorporate his interests in travel, anthropology and mythology.  Over the course of his 25 year career, he has achieved international recognition and his books are sold worldwide.
